about

Trauma Queen is about the worst interaction I have ever had with another human being. In October of 2018, my wife, sister-in-law, and I moved into an apartment that had 2 units for rent above a business on the ground floor. The building was fairly new and in good condition and the property manager who showed us the space was very friendly and helpful. We asked about the only other tenants who had already lived in the other unit for the last few months and was told by the property manager that they were chill, engaged in some marijuana smoking and sold soaps at local markets.

So we agreed to the lease thinking that we found a great deal on a great living situation. The next 8 months became a living hell as we constantly had the police called on us whenever any of our friends came over to our house or we had the TV on over a certain level. We quickly became aware that the walls between our units were very thin and poorly constructed and caused a lot of noise to be heard from us, as well as from them to us.

One night where our neighbor believed we were being too loud, instead of calling the police, she decided to march on the hardwood floors with the loudest pair of heels she could get her hands on and proceed to walk back and forth between the front door to her apartment and her back porch door and slam them as hard as she could. This would eventually become a scenario that would occur every weekend and would sometimes last until 3am.

This caused my wife and my sister-in-law, who both have PTSD from early childhood abuse to lash out in mental breakdowns. There was even a scenario where Aaron, our drummer stayed the night for a show and when he came back to the apartment early, she came out in a robe and started screaming at him about how noisy we were earlier in the day packing up for the show.

More and more events like this continued to occur, she began stalking our social media pages and commenting on our friends posts and yelling and screaming at her fiance about how terrible we are, all the while posing as a peaceful, fun and gentle person online. Instead of losing my cool and going to jail for it, I was able to negotiate a break of the lease with our property owners and moved out as soon as possible.

This song is ultimately about the anger and frustration I have towards this individual and it goes out to anyone who has had their lives ruined over some petty bullshit. In this song, the last clip you hear is from a video my sister-in-law took of her yelling at our drummer.

We also worked alongside our friend Robert over at Leviathan Artworks to use one of her instagram photos as the artwork for the single when it was released in 2019.

lyrics

I am rage
Abhorrent
Expression

Disillusioned
Fangs venomous
Slam all the doors
Can't escape
Fractured spine
Broken pride
It's a tantrum of the

Times
I confess

Rampant march through streets of shame
Your existence was in vain
Egocentric, paranoid
Your absence will be rejoiced
YEAH

Fragile
Like a child
Spoiled
Immature
Wasting
Wasting
Wasting away

Threaten my family and my friends
You will push me to the edge
Not your crystals
Not your sage
Will help you to escape

This
Is
My
Retribution
You'll
Pay
For what you've done
(When push comes to shove I will end you on my own)
Just
Wait
Your time will come
(When push comes to shove I will end you on my own)
This
Is
Exorcism
